Mertensia virginica (L.) Mers. ex Link 10 April 2012. Stroud Preserve, West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

PENNSYLVANIA PLANTS

The taxonomy and nomenclature follows The Plants of Pennsylvania (Rhoads and Block 2007). Common names may come from a number of different sources (The Pennsylvania Flora Project or USDA Plants Database). Families with no link and no common name don't have any photos at this time. Not all of the photos in the galleries are from Pennsylvania, however, all of the species included are found in within the state.

I have hundreds of plant photographs posted in these galleries. I am certain that I have include a couple here and there that are misidentified. If you see something in here that doesn't seem right, please let me know and I will correct it.

Over time, I plan to include a written account for each family that will contain whatever information I think is interesting. These accounts will also be Chester County centric, primarily because it is the county in which I live and do most of my field work. Families marked with an asterisk have a completed family account. Let me know if you have any comments.

All of the photos were taken by me using the camera on my iPhone. Sometimes this little camera takes fantastic photographs of plants (like the Mertensia virginica above). However, I have found that it does not take great photographs of white things in bright light or yellow things in just about any light. I also have trouble getting it to focus on what I want it to at times (a small flower with a deep background is next to impossible to get a photo of). I try to post the best photo that I have of each species that I find, but since this site is more about documentation than art, I will shamelessly post whatever photo I have.

Anyone is welcomed to use any of these photos for non-commerical purposes. All I ask is that you use the citation Russell Rogers (flyingablone.com). If you can't download a photo from the website, or need a higher resolution, just ask and I will be happy to send you a high resolution copy.
